I started flint knapping in February of 2000. I find knapping a fascinatingly difficult skill to master.

The lessons I've learned are:

1) Only strike platforms below the centerline of the mass

2) If striking the end of the piece, support the opposite end well.

3) Always prepare the platform before the strike.

4) If the flake doesn't come off, then the platform is probably not prepared well enough.

5) Don't wipe your glasses when there is silica dust on them.

Here are some of the points that I've made so far.

Obsidian Point

Jasper CN

Agate Dove

Dacite Hopewell

Dacite CN
One of my early Obsidian points My first successful "lap knapped" point from colorful Jasper A small Dovetail style point from Moss Agate A nice thin point in the Hopewell style made from Dacite A sturdy Cornernotch point from Dacite

Hardin

Harding (flip side)

Corner Notch

Texas

Burlington Dovetail
A 5.25" Hardin point from Novaculite The flip side A Marshall point from Obsidian A Texas flint preform. A Dovetail made of Burlington Chert

Obsidian Dart

Thebes

A nice dart point from Mahogany Obsidian A Thebes point made from a spall of Burlington Chert This is a WIDE Thebes point with great percussion flake scars. A big Scottsbluff that I knapped from Novaculite. I like Lost Lake points, so I decided to knock one out of some waxy Novaculite.

Long eared basal notch point from Burlington. A small Hardin from some gnarly Burlington. This is a large Dovetail that I knapped from some colorful Novaculite. Some Grey/white Novaculite yielded this interesting corner notch point. A little bird point from the same piece of stone that the large Dovetail came from.

A very sharp basal notch point knapped from some mahogany obsidian. Another bird point, this time from Brazilian Agate. An intersting corner notch knapped from some Burlington Chert. A Gary style point I knapped from some pink Burlington. I don't know what this one would be called, but I like the color of the stone.
